What's all this cacao buzz about?

The incredible Cacao plant offers an abundance of health benefits to our physical and mental well-being. This versatile super food contributes to the health of our heart and immune system, while providing a fair amount of nutrients to our diet.

Cacao is considered a strong medicine for the heart, with all of its mineral, vitamin, and antioxidant constituents. It is also believed to be a powerful ally to the emotional and spiritual heart as well with all of its “feel good” chemicals such as theobromine & anandamide.

A research focused on the cardiovascular health affects of cacao was noted in a study of the Kuna Indians. This tribe consumed a daily intake of cacao, which concluded that this daily consumption kept them from developing age-related cardiovascular deterioration.

A study in “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” shows that the antioxidants in cacao, called flavonoids, encourage the body into making more nitric oxide, which relaxes the blood vessels, thus easing blood pressure and helping circulation.

Research also suggests theobromine may help protect the heart in several ways. For starters, it naturally lowers blood pressure. This, in turn, decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Anandamide, which has been called “the bliss molecule” also plays an important role in the mental health benefits of cacao.

Eventually anandamide was found to produce a state of heightened happiness! When this molecule combines with other areas of the brain it assists with memory, motivation, higher thought processes, and movement control.

Cacao is a food relatively rich in polyphenols, which makes it a potent antioxidant – helping to boost the immune system. It also contains a number of important vitamins & minerals such as magnesium, calcium, zinc, potassium, B-complex vitamins and iron. All of which are lacking in the Standard American Diet.

Cacao influences the immune system by helping with the inflammatory response in the body and the systemic and intestinal adaptive immune response

These vitamins and minerals help your immune system’s memory and allow it to remember invading bugs and germs that it has encountered in the past, so that it can fight them off in the future.

To conclude, cacao has been proven to supercharge immunity and extend feelings of nourishment and excitement.
